Just like children, traveling with a dog can get dirty. You may be visiting environments that you normally are not used to. And because you may be staying in a hotel, you may not bathe your dog after every outing, pet wipes come in handy! I have tried a handful of various pet wipes but by far, the fragrance free ones is what I prefer. But because the wipe is fragrance free, sometimes you need to give your dog 2 wipe downs before the "wet dog" smell goes away. I don't know if it's just me but dogs are so sensitive to smell. I'm not sure why enjoy having a scent that is so strong following them around all day long. Sure it smells good to us (I've smelled cotton candy, lavender, "fresh," green apple among others) but we're not the ones that have to wear it 24/7! A brand that I like is Earthbath. Earthbath has multiple types of … [Read more...]
Tips When Booking Pet Friendly Hotels
I never realized just how many pet friendly hotels there were in CA until of course, we rescued Muffin and included her in our travels. Thanks to the web, searching is a breeze! The most difficult part of the whole process is finding the "right" hotel for you and your dog. Here are some things we take into consideration when booking a hotel: Pet Fee - Though all hotels have some kind of additional fee for allowing your pet to stay in one of their rooms, prices do vary. Some hotels charge a one time for no matter how many nights you stay vs. others that charge a per night fee. Is There Grass? - Some dogs may not care where they go potty but our dog is particular when it comes to this. One hotel that we stayed at did not have any grass on or near their property therefore my husband had to walk about a mile to a park every … [Read more...]
BringFido.com Review
I love review sites. Yelp and Trip Advisor...I can spend many hours searching and roaming on these sites contemplating where my next destination will be. I especially enjoy the photo gallery on these sites though some people take photos of the oddest things! You know what they say...a picture is worth a thousand words! Though I do look at the reviews and star ratings, I don't rely solely on these 2 items. You never know why it was an off day for the hotel or restaurant. The hotel receptionist may have had a really bad day or the restaurant was in the works to get a remodel the very next day. Though I must say, using wise judgement, if a hotel/restaurant has 1-2 stars, it is worth reconsidering. Now with a dog, I really wanted to find a good dog travel review site. I searched the web and came across BringFido.com. Being a top … [Read more...]
Dog Travel Tip – Before Your Trip
There is always so much to do prior to going on vacation. I tend to spend many hours researching destinations, hotels and eateries that are dog friendly. I also like to clean the house, do as much laundry as I can and take out all the trash. Your "to-do" list may be similar but did you know there are things you can do to prepare your dog before your trip? Some of the items listed below may be things you already know but it's always good to keep a mental note, perhaps use the below as your checklist! Pet Identification. Make sure your dog has a sturdy collar and dog tag that has up to date information. Also get your dog microchipped. How awful would it be if while on your weekend getaway, you lose your pup! Talk about your vacation turning from fun to devastation! Microchips are often placed at the base of the neck. The … [Read more...]
