I LOVE bakeries so when I found out that this little place was on the way home from Convict Lake, I had to stop by. Erick Schatt's is an amazing bakery in the city of Bishop, CA. Here is some history about Erick Schatt's Bakkery (two "ks", not a typo): The Original Sheepherder Bread® 1938 was introduced to the Owens Valley during the California Gold Rush by immigrant Basque sheepherders who missed the bread of their homeland. They shaped loaves of their traditional bread by hand, used stone ovens for baking, and produced the first sheepherder bread. Even today we shape the loaves by hand and bake in the finest European Stone Hearth Ovens. The Original Sheepherder Bread ® 1938, as well as all other delicious products, are made of only the purest ingredients: Well water from the Sierras, stone ground unbleached flour, and never any … [Read more...]
Dog Friendly Travel – Convict Lake, CA – Cabin
The cabin at Convict Lake was great. Our cabin slept 8 people. It had 1 room that slept 4 (a bunkbed and a King size bed), a living room with a sofa couch (Queen bed) then in the kitchen, another sofa bed (Queen bed). The cabin was much like a hotel room in that it was fully furnished with bedding and towels. There were 2 bathrooms both with showers and each one came with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body gel and a bar of soap...all from Bath and Body Works! I was so happy! The cabin also came with a fridge, stove, oven, microwave, a heater and TV/DVD. All cabins are pet friendly too. It was GREAT! Out on the front porch was a picnic table as well as a BBQ grill. We went to Costco a few days prior to our trip so we were prepared! Though the BBQ grill took a bit getting used to, it was fun to be able to grill our meat and make … [Read more...]
Dog Friendly Travel – Convict Lake, CA
This year, my family and I decided to take a big trip. Somewhere in driving distance but far enough that we feel like it's a vacation getaway and that was of course, pet friendly. It's rare that we all travel together so this was a special treat! My husband had gone to Convict Lake once for a Men's Group retreat with church and just raved about it so we decided to book a cabin and go. Boy was he right. It was beautiful and so peaceful. Though we took a wrong turn off the freeway and made a few pit stops, we arrived excited to see what nature had in store in for us for the weekend. We rented a cabin that would sleep 8 of us. We packed all kinds of food, drinks and snacks and were ready to have a great time. Here's some history about Convict Lake: In 1929 the resort was officially established as Convict Lake Camp and owned by … [Read more...]
Sherpa Blanket for Dogs
What does your pup use for a blanket? We have used towels, fleece blankets and even sheets but my all time favorite (and I think Muffin's too) is her sherpa blanket. I found this really cute light blue sherpa blanket at TJ Maxx a white back and because it was such a great deal, I decided to try it. One side is microfiber and the other is a super soft sherpa fabric. Basically sherpa is super soft, fluffy cotton like fabric. You can purchase this fabric at your local fabric store like JoAnn's or Beverly's but if you're like me and don't have much time to sew, purchasing a premade one will do. The great thing about this blanket is that it's super light, durable, machine washable and WARM! If you're doing a trip during the fall/winter seasons, this is the perfect blanket for your pup. Give it a try! American Kennel Club Pet Throw, … [Read more...]
