There is always so much to do prior to going on vacation. I tend to spend many hours researching destinations, hotels and eateries that are dog friendly. I also like to clean the house, do as much laundry as I can and take out all the trash. Your "to-do" list may be similar but did you know there are things you can do to prepare your dog before your trip? Some of the items listed below may be things you already know but it's always good to keep a mental note, perhaps use the below as your checklist! Pet Identification. Make sure your dog has a sturdy collar and dog tag that has up to date information. Also get your dog microchipped. How awful would it be if while on your weekend getaway, you lose your pup! Talk about your vacation turning from fun to devastation! Microchips are often placed at the base of the neck. The … [Read more...]
Anxiety Solution for Dogs – Thundershirt
If your dog gets at all anxious or motion sick during your travels, I would highly recommend you purchasing a Thundershirt. You will be SO glad that you did! I had no idea that dogs got motion sick until we adopted Muffin. Perhaps prior to us adopting her, car rides may not have been so pleasant. Trips to the vet or to another Adoption Day at a local pet store may have attributed to car rides and her anxiety. For our trip to Cambria (click here to read more), we had no idea about the Thundershirt. We also didn't realize the consequence of her motion sickness. The ride o Cambria was about 3 hours and quite honestly, we were all getting used to each other since it had only been 5 months since we adopted her. We stopped frequently and always had a towel nearby just in case. But with a trip to Convict Lake planned with the family … [Read more...]
Dog Friendly Travel – Cambria, CA Restaurant #5 – Red Wood Cafe
Our last meal in Cambria was breakfast as we headed home. We found a diner that was in a shopping center. It had indoor seating as well as outdoor. This place is very popular and the prices are great so go early if you want to get a seat! Spot #5 - Red Wood Cafe (2094 Main Street, Cambria, CA 93428) What a great find! Parking is great for the Red Wood cafe and though you may have to wait a bit to get seating, it is well worth the wait. The prices are great and the food came out so fast! My husband loves breakfast so this place was perfect! I on the other hand am not a big eater in the morning but I love my potatoes. The staff was so friendly and brought out a water bowl for Muffin and even some biscuits! She's not a fan of biscuits but still...how considerate! Definitely would go back. … [Read more...]
Dog Friendly Travel – Cambria, CA – Dessert #1 Linn’s Restaurant
A trip wouldn't be complete without a few indulgences along the way. I was told that in Cambria, you can get olillieberry pies. Ola la what? Pronounced oh-la-leh berry is a part of the blackberry family. I had never in my life heard of this fruit! I just had to have a slice so we found a bakery much like Cocos that was a family diner/bakery. Unfortunately though this restaurant is showcased on my blog, it is not dog friendly and does not have an outdoor patio. Sorry! Dessert Spot #1 - Linn's Restaurant (2277 Main Street, Cambria, CA 93428) We went pretty late to pick up my slice of pie but it was crazy busy! Downtown Cambria, at a certian time of night gets really dark and really quiet but not this place. I had to stand in line to get my pie but I was determined. The inside of the restaurant was really nice but those that … [Read more...]
