I never realized just how many pet friendly hotels there were in CA until of course, we rescued Muffin and included her in our travels. Thanks to the web, searching is a breeze! The most difficult part of the whole process is finding the “right” hotel for you and your dog.
Here are some things we take into consideration when booking a hotel:
- Pet Fee – Though all hotels have some kind of additional fee for allowing your pet to stay in one of their rooms, prices do vary. Some hotels charge a one time for no matter how many nights you stay vs. others that charge a per night fee.
- Is There Grass? – Some dogs may not care where they go potty but our dog is particular when it comes to this. One hotel that we stayed at did not have any grass on or near their property therefore my husband had to walk about a mile to a park every morning and night. They tried to accommodate by having astroturf like grass for dogs on site but Muffin was not interested.
- Keep Them With You – Most hotels will not allow for you to leave your dog unaccompanied in the hotel room. Just something to keep in mind
- Pet Needs – It may be good to check with the hotel prior see if the hotel carries any pet items that you may accidentally forget at home.
- Vet Location – Ask the hotel where the nearest vet is. The last thing you would want to do while on vacation is to visit the vet but if you have to, it’s best to be prepared.
- Dog Friendly Restaurants – You may want to call the hotel and get their advice on the best dog friendly restaurants that are close to the hotel.
Remember, the more you inquire ahead of time, the more you can plan and enjoy your vacation. The above tips may also help you narrow your hotel search options.
